The Athena Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting the building community with evaluating the environmental impacts of materials and products, has independently verified greenhouse gas emission totals from the production of the Reserve Collection at Green River's shake and shingle mills. Green River has implemented a program of carbon offset purchases to balance the carbon emissions from its activities, resulting in a carbon neutral product.

Using Carbon Neutral Roofing cedar shakes and shingles from the Reserve Collection can also help reduce energy costs year after year. Wood products such as cedar shakes and shingles are excellent natural insulators, with insulating R-values that are more than twice those of asphalt, fiber cement and metal, according to the Federal Housing Administration (FHA). Wood products offer other green building benefits, including coming from a renewable, natural resource and helping sequester carbon dioxide (CO2) - a greenhouse gas implicated in global warming.

The Reserve Collection shakes and shingles are lightweight, yet durable, allowing up to four times the amount of material to be shipped on one truck compared to other, heavier roofing materials. This reduces greenhouse gas emissions produced from shipping.

The Reserve Collection hand-split, resawn, and taper-sawn shakes are available in 24" and 18" lengths, 7/8", 3/4" and 1" or more thicknesses, and random, 4" minimum and 14" maximum widths. Shingles come in 0.5" and 0.45" thicknesses, 24" and 18" lengths, and are available in random, 4" minimum and 14" maximum widths.
